GENERAL INFORMATION
1) No refreshments are available at any event unless particularly advertised.
The only current exceptions to this are all the events hosted by Bowbrook
Archers where thanks to Lizzies Diner the best bacon butties in town can be
purchased, and the Pickwick Pepperpot hosted events when held at Arley Fort
.
2) Whenever we have an event at Arley Fort, you may if you wish during your transit ring the arboretum tea rooms from 9.00am onwards, telephone number 01299 861868 so as to order your breakfast. Your meal will not be immediately available when you check in as it is not possible to time things that accurately. It will however give the staff notice of quantities required etc so that enough victuals can be obtained to ensure that you are not disappointed when you do arrive.
3) As a general rule arrows away is between 10.30am and 11.00am. During the winter period due to the lack of daylight hours it is as close to the earlier time as possible to enable members to benefit from the best visibility available for the journey home.
4) In a spirit of camaraderie The Pickwick Pepperpots advertises on the Shooting Diary page events being hosted by four other clubs. You are quite at liberty to attend and take part in these other competitions. However you should be aware that The Pickwick Pepperpot insurance is ineffective at these occasions and you should satisfy yourselves of the insurance and any other requirement such as mandatory N.F.A.S. membership beforehand by making contact with the clubs in question yourself.
5) Please refer to the note towards the head of the Shooting Diary page for
information concerning relations between these other four clubs and The Pickwick
Pepperpots.
6) If any interested party has any question or requires further information or enlargement about any aspect of The Pickwick Pepperpots please enter the Contact page and send your email to administration.

REPORTS
Tree Planting
Issue Number 1`
To date a total of 248 trees, mainly whips have been planted as follows.
Charlecote Park, an avenue in front of the house, numerous trees in the grounds and in the deer park copse's. Species Oak, Spindle, Maple, Horse Chestnut.
Stanford Hall, at the Hall entrance and in the huge rear field. Species similar.
Boughton House, at entrance to Hall and in the field by Excalibur Pool. Species similar.
Edwinstow Common, Sherwood Forest, two oaks planted.
Wychbury Hill Fort, one yew planted.
Beaudesert Deer Park,Cannock Chase, one quiver full of oaks planted.
Yews planted in the following churchyards. St Leonard's Bridgnorth, St Peter's Worfield, St Mark's Patshull Park, St Matthew's Walsall, St Duncan's Lichfield, Queen Street Ancient Cemetery, Brewood Church, Blymhill Church, Lapley Church, St Mary's Bishops Wood, Boningale Church.
In view of the longbows association with the Yew we would like to plant more of this type of tree. Unfortunately due to their poisonous habits it is not possible to plant them where livestock are to be found. Traditionally Yew trees are found in churchyards. Therefore we would ask if you would care to approach your local vicar, explain our project to him and ask if he would like one of our Yew trees in his churchyard for no charge.
Arley Fort aka Arboretum, twenty nine trees of various species have been planted in the Pickwick Plantation. Each has been identified with a brass letter "P" and a citation provided for entry in the Arboretum's book of Commemoration.
The intention is now to enquire of an arboretum in the south of our area for permission to plant trees at their location.
Issue Number 2
Since the last issue, a further 36 number 2 foot high Oaks with guards have been planted on the Staffordshire Way between Seisdon and Shipley. This was the result of a donation.
2 yews have been planted in Lullington church yard.
The same planted in the church yard at Harlaston Church.
We have E emailed Stowe Gardens with our offer to sponcer tree planting at their location. We are awaiting their reply.
An initial approach kindly received has been made to The National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, Staffordshire. This as you probably know already is the equivalent of The Cenotaph in London but in respect of those killed since WW2. It was thought that above all this location would be most fitting for a donation of trees from our club. We hope you approve of this choice.
Issue No 3
No reply received from Stowe Gardens re planting trees, contact will not be
continued.
Wollemi Pine thought to have been extinct for 200 million years found in an
Australian canyon in 1994 and now available for purchase. A specimen has been
sponsored through Arley Arboretum which will be available for all to see on
our next visit.
